In partnership with Make-A-Wish Missouri and Kansas, Ronco Gives, the philanthropic branch of Ronco Construction, stepped forward to grant Owen’s wish for an indoor playground. For Owen and his family, this wish offers a much-needed break from the overwhelming stress and trauma brought on by his critical illness. Owen’s wish to have an indoor playground wasn’t just a simple request. It was a source of hope, joy and relief for him and his family. When a wish is granted, children often replace their fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope.
How Community and Ronco Gives Brought a Special Wish to Life
Make-A-Wish Missouri and Kansas granted 366 wishes in the past year and Owen’s was one of them. With the support of organizations like Ronco Construction, wishes like these transform a dream into reality. Ronco Construction took on this project wholeheartedly, donating time, expertise and resources to bring Owen’s vision to life. The community came together, driven by the goal of making this wish truly special for Owen. The outpouring of support, teamwork and dedication gave Owen’s family more than a playground. It provided a sense of belonging and comfort knowing they aren’t alone in their journey. Owen’s family expressed, “We’ve had some really hard days through Owen’s journey and this project is a reminder of the community with have supporting us.”
A Source of Joy and Healing
Owen, who’s fighting a critical illness, dreamed of having a place where he could play, climb and enjoy his favorite activities without limitations. His new indoor playground offers him an opportunity to invite friends to play and to simply be a kid again. Providing him with a space where he can run, jump, and let go of the stress of treatment. For Owen and his family, this wish not only offers happiness but a sense of normalcy and relief during this challenging time.
Playground Built with Heart and Care
The Ronco team worked closely with Owen to ensure the playground had all the features he wanted. This included a slide, rock climbing wall and a special fort for him to relax in. Ronco construction started by pre-building the platforms in the shop. The goal of the structure was to create a fort-like atmosphere. Once completed, Ronco’s Kansas City team transported everything to Owen’s home and started assembling. Every part of the design was tailored to Owen’s wishes, even down to the paint colors. Creating a safe and exciting space he could enjoy at home.
“I think it’s very important for an individual and company to give back to the community where they live and work to help others in need,” shared Jason Jacobson, Ronco Regional Director. “It was such a good feeling to see the excitement in Owen when we revealed the playcenter to him. Everyone has struggles. But this kid is fighting for his life every day. It really puts our struggles into perspective and makes us thankful for our lives every day.”
Owen’s indoor playground is a testament to the power the community has on children and families in need. It’s a great reminder of how collective efforts can bring hope and happiness to those who need it most. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making Owen’s wish come true.
